PurLINK delivers secure professional services

The Coffee Grinds Group (“The Group”) provides professional services – accounting and tax services, human resources consulting and financial audits - to customers all across the country. In this line of work, the insurance of the security and privacy of a client’s information is one of the most important pillars of the client-consultant relationship. The Group operates under strict government regulations on information privacy as well as operates under it own internal code of conduct, as do many it clients. Under these regulations it is imperative that a client’s account information is only to be shared with entitled and authorized personnel.

The Challenge: Securely Accessing Customer Account Information
Andrew is the director of The Group’s business development team. Along with their superior professional services, Andrew wants to differentiate The Group by offering superior customer service to clients. Andrew thinks that one of the best ways to do this is to provide clients with simple, secure, 24x7 access to their account information.

With the importance of the privacy and security in mind, Andrew wants his customer service program to provide client information in a way that ensures authenticated users are able to access only the information they are entitled to. Andrew is familiar with two-factor authentication tokens as a means of authenticating users, but understands that this technology still leaves users and organizations vulnerable to keyboard loggers and data-in-motion and data-at-rest attacks.

For this program to be effective, The Group needs a solution that will:

  • Defend against data leakages: Ensure that client information can not be exploited from files being transferred or mobile devices being lost or stolen.
  • Defend against malicious software: Prevent malicious software on the client’s computer from logging keyboard strokes or screen captures of the client’s work session.
  • Ensure only entitled users obtain access: Authenticate and provide access to information that only they are entitled to.

Implementing the Route1 Solution
Andrew evaluated Route1’s identity & entitlement management solution and decided to trial Route1’s PurLINK® service with the Route1 MobiKEY®. Andrew decided that he would make a web portal that would contain all of The Group’s customers account information. Andrew would distribute MobiKEYs to clients at the beginning of the relationship to allow them to securely access their account information

Specific advantages Andrew identified while evaluating PurLINK were:

  • The client’s account information never left The Group’s firewall
  • Clients were required to have the Route1 MobiKEY – a form of two-factor authentication - to view private account information
  • The usability and functionality was very simple to operate
  • The isolated computing environment initiated on the client’s computer would defend against keyboard logging and other malicious software from attacking the work session

Andrew purchases 1,000 MobiKEYs and PurLINK subscriptions and distributed them to account managers to provision out to existing clients. To assist the organization’s IT team with managing and provisioning the PurLINK service and MobiKEY deployment, and employ security policies and reporting mechanisms, Andrew also purchased:

  • MobiNET Administration and Provisioning™ (MAP): A web-based portal that allows IT administrators within an organization to manage usage policies for subscribers of Route1’s services such as TruOFFICE™ and PurLINK, and products such as MobiVDI and Route1 MobiKEY. This simple-to-access provisioning tool also enables organizations to cost-effectively manage large-scale deployments of Route1’s products and services.
  • EnterpriseLIVE® SR: EnterpriseLIVE SR is a flexible and scalable hardware network appliance that enables businesses to build a robust, web-based solution that is secured by Route1’s MobiNET® identity management and service-delivery platform.

A Successful Implementation
Andrew and the IT team easily deployed the EnterpriseLIVE SR appliance into The Group’s network with very limited reconfiguration required and managed the provisioning and usage policies of MobiKEY and the PurLINK subscriptions using MAP. Customer account information was moved onto a server managed by EnterpriseLIVE SR and within minutes of clients receiving their MobiKEYs they were able to securely access their account information.

Since The Group has implemented its secure customer portal:

  • Clients are able to view their account information at any time, from any where
  • Account managers are able to securely communicate sensitive and private information with their customers over the web
  • The IT department is now exploring the idea of implementing Route1’s TruOFFICE service to provide employees with remote access to their internal digital resources
